Duende was an established restaurant before bradleycole was engaged to design its refurbishment including the re-planning of the central bar, kitchen and back of house areas. This engagement also involved obtaining approvals for increases in the liquor licensing patron numbers and the amount of alfresco dining area. The brief required a reconfiguration of the existing restaurant layout, to establish three main hospitality experience; bar / casual dining, semi-formal seated dining and alfresco dining.

The bar was extended into a central visual element that divided the convivial entry side of the restaurant from the seated dining area. Suspended wine and glass racks were use to fracture views and add intimacy and intrigue. The kitchen was also rotated to correctly address the room and the bar top dinners, and strengthen the venue’s engagement with food and drink production.
